Make a large statement in the public realm that will attract people to stop, look and stare. The artwork should be surprising, have character and exert a strong visual appeal both by day and night. Consider a specific site for the piece, play with its location and reference the place or context in which it will sit or be positioned.
In this collaboration, me and fellow designer Dalma Kadocsa wanted to devise an experience that would encourage Nottingham’s people to discover the city as they have never seen it before. We created Siteclops – a double kaleidoscope that invites the public to playfully explore the cityscape from new angles. Its magical distortion induces a sense of wonder and provides an escape from reality. Siteclops uses imagery from its surroundings to entice the viewer and draw their attention to the historical of the city’s architecture.
